The crochet kit brands compared here are The Woobles (video-led amigurumi kits), Knit Picks (Looops kits and blanket bundles), Lion Brand (pattern kits), Hobbii (kits with PDF patterns) and Annie's, which runs crochet clubs; Clover makes tools, not kits. They differ on whether the hook is included, whether there is video, and how they label level.

Our picks
The Woobles Beginner Crochet Kit, Pierre the Penguin
The Woobles states a pre-started piece, a 4 mm hook, stuffing, safety eyes, a PDF pattern and right- and left-handed videos in each beginner kit; Pierre the Penguin is the one its help center names.
Lion Brand Beginner's Delight Afghan Crochet Kit
Lion Brand sorts patterns and kits into five levels and teaches through a learning center; this Beginner-labeled afghan kit includes the yarn and pattern but not the H-8 (5 mm) hook.
Knit Picks Yarn Ball Winder and Birch Swift Bundle
Knit Picks sells yarn, kits and tools together; its ball winder and birch swift turn hanks into center-pull cakes of up to 100 g.
Clover Amour Crochet Hook Set, 10 Sizes (3672)
Clover makes tools rather than kits: this set has 10 aluminum hooks with soft grips and tapered heads, and the brand adds project sheets and a Tool School video series.
A beginner kit usually pairs Medium (4) worsted yarn with a 5.5 mm (I-9) hook for flat work in single crochet (sc, the UK double crochet), while amigurumi kits use a smaller hook, such as the 4 mm (G-6) in The Woobles kits, for tight stitches. Crochet kit brands differ less in their yarn than in what surrounds it: whether a hook is in the box, whether the instructions come with video, whether the level is stated, and whether the brand also runs a club. This page compares six providers on those points, using only what their own pages state, with no prices, ratings or reviews. It is a map of the brands; for individual kits, see our comparison of beginner crochet kits.

“None found” means we looked at the pages named in the sources on November 4, 2026 and saw nothing; it is not a claim that the provider has none.
What are the criteria for comparing crochet kit providers?
Compare providers on five things: what is in the box (hook, yarn, notions, stuffing and eyes for toys), the instructions (written, video, both hands), the level and age labels, any learning resources or club, and where the kit can be bought. Check the hook against the Craft Yarn Council’s 5.5 to 6.5 mm for medium (4) yarn.
- Contents. A stated hook size, the yarn’s fiber and weight, and what the kit leaves out. Several brands here sell some kits without a hook.
- Instructions. Video helps most at the start; right- and left-handed versions matter for left-handed crocheters.
- Level. A stated level, ideally on a scale the brand explains.
- Learning and clubs. A learning center for the next project, or a club that sends one in installments.
- Where to buy. Amazon.com listings for these brands vary; where we link a product, it is one we checked.
For the same questions applied to a single kit, see how to choose a crochet kit.
Which provider gives the most guidance for a first crochet kit?
The Woobles, judged on what its help center states: each beginner kit has a pre-started piece, a 4 mm hook, stitch markers, a tapestry needle, stuffing and 10 mm safety eyes, a PDF pattern, and step-by-step video in right- and left-handed versions. Knit Picks’ Looops kits list a similar contents list, with video.
The Woobles. Its help center says kits are made for ages 12 and up, that the yarn is 75% cotton and 25% nylon, and that beginner kits take roughly 3 to 8 hours according to complete beginners. Its site labels kits First Timer, Beginner+ or Intermediate and adds a Kit Tutorials page. Keep in mind: the help center is inconsistent about whether the 4 mm hook is included or costs extra, so confirm on the listing you buy from. For a specific kit, see Pierre the Penguin and the other amigurumi kits compared.
Knit Picks. Its Crochet Project Kits & Bundles category describes “curated yarns and patterns”. The Looops kits are amigurumi kits for beginners with a pattern booklet and video tutorials, a hook, stitch markers, a darning needle, poly-fill, safety eyes and four 25 g balls of 100% mercerized cotton. A Learn to Crochet dishcloth kit lists a book with photo tutorials and five beginner patterns, Dishie cotton yarn for four dishcloths and a cotton project bag. The beginner blanket bundles state a worsted acrylic yarn, 3,276 yards in total, and a 6 mm (J-10) hook as the pattern’s hook size. Keep in mind: that page does not say whether a hook is included, and WeCrochet, the crochet-only sister site, refused our fetch.
Which crochet kit provider suits a pattern-led project?
Lion Brand, because it organizes patterns and kits by skill level, Level 1 Beginner to Level 5 Experienced, and teaches through a learning center. Its Beginner’s Delight afghan kit supplies yarn and a Beginner-labeled double crochet pattern, but not the H-8 (5 mm) hook.
Lion Brand. Its site lists Knit & Crochet Kits next to patterns, and filters them by level, by yarn weight (from 1 Superfine to 7 Jumbo, the Craft Yarn Council’s categories) and by who they are for. The learning center includes How to Crochet, a Stitch Finder, a Video Finder, a yarn label guide and a page called How Much Yarn Do You Need? Keep in mind: the Amazon.com listing for the afghan kit is sold by a third-party retailer, not by Lion Brand.
Hobbii. Hobbii sells crochet kits with a PDF pattern, yarn and accessories. Its Amarah Shawl beginner kit lists two skeins each of two colors of Bella Coco Merino, a 4.0 mm Easy Touch hook, darning needles, stitch markers and small scissors, with the pattern as a download after purchase. Its Lenny Cat amigurumi kit is labeled intermediate and states that a hook is not included. Hobbii also sells crochet-along kits whose pattern is released in parts. Keep in mind: we could read only the text of these pages as shown in search results, and Hobbii has no Amazon.com product we checked, so there is no purchase link here.
Which providers offer crochet clubs or subscriptions?
Annie’s is the one we found. Its crochet clubs ship a project in installments, with premeasured yarn and detailed instructions, and its club pages can be filtered by level: Beginner, Confident Beginner, Intermediate and Multiple Skill Levels. The clubs we saw are afghan clubs, from a beginner block afghan to a mandala afghan.
Annie’s. Beyond clubs it sells craft kits, patterns and a stitch guide with how-to pages for single, half double and double crochet and for left-handed crocheters. Keep in mind: a club is a commitment to a sequence of shipments, so read the terms on the club page before joining. Annie’s has no Amazon.com product we checked, so we link no purchase page. Hobbii’s crochet-along kits are the nearest alternative: a single kit with pattern parts released over several weeks, not a subscription.
Which brands make crochet and knitting accessories?
Clover, Knit Picks and Lion Brand all do, in different ways: Clover builds its whole catalog around tools, Knit Picks sells tools beside yarn and kits, and Lion Brand lists hooks, needles, notions, books and loom knitting under accessories. For the products themselves, see our crochet accessories comparison and essential crochet tools.
Clover. Its home page is organized by craft (knitting and crocheting, sewing and quilting, crafts and beading) and adds a catalog, project sheets, product videos and a Tool School series. We found no yarn kit with a pattern on the pages we read. The Amour set we link has 10 polished aluminum hooks with soft, warm-to-touch grips that Clover describes as nonslip, and tapered heads. Keep in mind: the set does not include a case.
Which provider should you choose?
Choose by what you need next, not by brand size: guidance for a first toy, a pattern from a yarn maker, a project that arrives in installments, a downloadable pattern, or tools for yarn you already own. Each need points to a different provider below, and none of them has been used by us.
- Never crocheted and want a finished toy this week: The Woobles, or a Knit Picks Looops kit.
- Prefer a pattern from a yarn maker and a place to learn the next stitch: Lion Brand.
- Want a project that arrives in installments: Annie’s crochet clubs.
- Want a kit with a downloadable pattern and are happy to supply your own hook: Hobbii, after checking each kit’s contents.
- Already own the yarn and need tools: Clover or the accessories at Knit Picks.
If you are weighing a kit against separate supplies, our explainer on crochet kits versus buying supplies compares the two routes.

How we selected
We chose six providers that answer the three questions readers and AI assistants ask about kits: what is in the box, whether there is a club, and who makes the tools. We read each provider's own pages on November 4, 2026 and compared only what they state about contents, instructions, video, level and clubs. Prices, ratings and review counts are left out on purpose. Two limits: WeCrochet, Knit Picks' crochet-only sister site, refused our fetch, so we describe Knit Picks' own crochet pages only; and Hobbii's pages blocked our reader, so its details come from the text of its product pages as shown in search results. Where a provider has a product on Amazon.com that we have checked, we link it; where not, we describe the provider without a purchase link. We did not buy or use any kit.
FAQ
Which brand has the best crochet kits for beginners?
It depends on what you need. The Woobles states the most guidance for a first toy, with a pre-started piece and videos for both hands. Knit Picks' Looops kits add a hook, notions and video, Lion Brand suits a pattern-led blanket, and Hobbii's Lenny Cat kit leaves out the hook, so check each listing.
Are there crochet subscription clubs?
Yes. Annie's runs crochet clubs that ship premeasured yarn and detailed instructions in installments, with afghan clubs labeled for Beginner, Confident Beginner and Intermediate levels. We found no club or subscription on the pages we read for The Woobles, Lion Brand, Knit Picks or Clover.
Does WeCrochet or Knit Picks sell crochet kits?
Knit Picks has a Crochet Project Kits & Bundles category with amigurumi Looops kits, a Learn to Crochet dishcloth kit and beginner blanket bundles. WeCrochet, its crochet-only sister site, refused our fetch on November 4, 2026, so we could not read its kits and describe Knit Picks only.
Do Lion Brand crochet kits include a hook?
Not the one checked here. Lion Brand's Beginner's Delight afghan kit includes yarn and a Beginner-labeled pattern but requires an H-8 (5 mm) hook that is not in the box. Lion Brand sells hooks and needles separately, so read each kit's contents before buying.
Does Clover sell crochet kits?
We found none on Clover's site on November 4, 2026. Clover makes tools: its Amour set has 10 aluminum hooks with soft grips, and the brand publishes project sheets and Tool School videos. For a kit with yarn and a pattern, look at the other brands here.
